Playing on a soggy pitch saturated from a steady rain for much of the afternoon, the Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team scored a pair of second-half goals to beat Richard J. Daley 2-0 on Saturday night at Kleine Field.
After a scoreless first half, the Chargers (5-5-2 overall, 3-5-2 Region IV) finally broke through midway through the second. Lucas Mitihiro Sueyoshi (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio San Jose Santa Andre) was tackled from behind in the box in the 68th minute, giving Sandburg a penalty kick. Andres Caceres (Miami, Fla./Immaculata LaSalle) waited out the Bulldogs’ (0-9) keeper before burying the PK in the middle of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Sueyoshi gave the Chargers some insurance in the 77th minute as he finished off a loose ball in the middle of the box for a 2-0 lead.
Sandburg outshot Daley 32-4, with the Chargers putting 14 shots on net.
Felipe Petry delivered a clean sheet for Sandburg, stopping both Bulldogs shots on goal.
